My name is Missy Stancil, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#10638) and National Certified Counselor. I earned a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Campbell University and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I completed a three-year postgraduate residency in spiritually integrated psychotherapy from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, as well as the FaithHealth Fellowship. I furthered my training through the Addressing Health Disparities Leadership Program through the National Council for Behavioral Health and the LGBTQ Academy Certificate from the American Counseling Association.
My counseling approach includes an integrative approach founded upon person-centered counseling with sensorimotor techniques and integrative wellness, with a specialty in EMDR. I am available to counsel adolescents, adults, and couples with a variety of needs, and specialize in trauma, grief/loss, self-esteem, stress management, career planning, sexual identity, gender identity, and spiritually-integrated psychotherapy. My professional interests include rural mental health, women’s health, and the intersection of spirituality and sexuality.
The integration of wellness practices with trauma protocols (such as EMDR) is often the foundation of my work with clients. I’ve specialized in working with PTSD for several years, and the progress and healing of clients is remarkable. I am a trained Reiki Master and can integrate Reiki into treatment at your request.
When I’m not at work, you can usually find me outside enjoying as much of nature as possible. I love walking with my dog, Maybe Lynn, live music of (almost) all genres, and reading just about anything. I look forward to meeting with you and working together to help you meet your goals.
